Black to White

Girl is saying: " That is a bad note"

Joyful, joyful, joyful,
as only dogs know how to be happy
with only the autonomy
of their shameless spirit.

(an excerpt from Poet Pablo Neruda)

The photo is from a series put together by Ziba Karbassi, from Tabriz, Iran..  I think many of the photos are from the Iranian earthquake a few months ago which got little notice.  Since US has banned Iran from any outside aid or comfort, the lowliest suffer as well.
Many more photos can  be seen here.

I love the Black and White depictions.  Color is not necessary ; only the meaning breaks through.  And sometimes only the feelings.  How much of the world lives with so little, and then that is taken away, must break their spirit -- would mine probably .
Be sad for awhile, so that you can be happy . . .

  1. Beautiful photo...it needs no words.

But in saying that I, in no way, mean the words of Pablo Neruda are not beautiful, also. :)

And I agree. black and white photos instill wonder, emotion and qualities that so very often can't be found in colour.

  4. It's funny that Hussein was the only check on the Iranians with his secular despotism, and we took him out and now that we are done destroying Iraq, we won't aid Iran with food, tents, clothes etc after fucking up their economy. Fuck we treated the soviets better than that when they were in their wheat crisis year after year and they had 10000 warheads pointed at us.

    All governments suck.

  5. The photo is wonderful. I agree, there is depth in many black and whites that I don't see in color. Pablo Neruda's words capture the truth about dogs. Beautiful post my friend...xoxoxo

  6. I so agree everything does not need to be in color to convey the message. Thank you for stopping into one of my blogs. I have been a bit busy lately. Wonderful posts you have here.

  7. Thank you for sharing this with us. So much suffering it boggles "the heart and mind". I did hear about this earthquake, but you are right..we don't know or hear a lot about what's going on in Iran at all.

I also like the black and white. Something about the shadows, in Photos, movies, art...I Have sually drawn most of my portraits in black and white, my whole life. Just something about it.

Of course colors are nice, too! But I'm sure you know what I mean.
