Bent

Bend I will if bend I can
said the sapling tree
to the asking man

But once arched
beyond a yield point
permanent distortion remembered
the reasons forgotten:

seeking the light
faded hopes
broken friends
pointless deaths
missed chances

weight of endless time

Entropy is taken
dissipated like skittering leaves in the spreading wind

a permanent tell

  1. This makes me wonder about all the bent trees, just what factors distorted them, what started out as graceful.

says much about nature but also human nature...

I also see from your profile that you're an Atwood fan. Cheers, Goatman.

  10. Mesmerizing!

If anyone ever asks me why I'm so bent, I'll remember to tell them it's because I'm growing towards the light. :)

  13. ooo man. i was like ... paused.

i dunno. it's deep ... too many things combined: sadness, feeling hopeless but ambitious as well ... i dunno ... it feels strange.

  14. Everyone bends, no way around it but that. I had to come back and read the poem again Goatman, and look at the picture of the tree, both most remarkable, the poem is really a great piece, magnificent!

  15. I've popped over here to read this one several times. "Bend I will if bend I can" is a brilliant first line.

  16. Excellent verse! I love all the different directions and "bents" this has. One is so flexible and pliable when we are mere saplings and we can go many different ways. Not so when we are older. I remind myself this every time I bend over to clean the tub and have trouble and pain getting up! Of course, I could just stop cleaning it...!

Sorry you're sick of our CDN cold air flowing your way but believe me, we're sick of having it hang around here! We're getting lots of rain right now.

  17. Touched by the experienced amalgamation of the photo and the poem making the core of life itself, from rot to its buds.

  28. Have a picture on my site that I wrote a poem for, which was actually inspired by another blogger who had written about it...hers was a beautiful closed gate in South Africa where she lives and I wanted to open it so wrote about that desire and then found an open gate pic.
You seem to be inspired by and write beautifully about pictures, so just wondered what your take would be. It's about time for your monthly poem anyway. isn't it?!! (Just kidding you!)

Most people who just want to chat join in at Cafe Hopcott which is very lighthearted and a bit insane.

Of course, if you want to talk about a subject mentioned on one of my themed blogs, politics, gambling, folk music etc., you are always more than welcome to join in at the particular site :-)

    Thnaks again for your visit.

  33. Lovely! Poignant and evocative words. There are a lot of windswept trees where I live - stretching out to the side, as though they were trying to escape the wind. The evoke similar thoughts.

  35. A sad poem that goes so well with the image. I often think that the beauty may be in the imperfection of things, after all, and that things must be just the way they are. As a youth, I wasn't so fatalistic as I am capable of being now!

We are like the tree, weathered and stooped by events and time. Yet we too, have our beauty.

  36. Bend I will if bend I can. You wowed me with this piece. If you are this poet, you are a poet. This is a perfect piece. Nice work.
