"Masters Of War"
Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build all the bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks.
You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly.
Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain.
You fasten all the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion'
As young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the sand.
You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins.
How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
That even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do.
Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul.
And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand over your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead.
Bob Zimmerman (Dylan)
Such glee at a death not our own -- Obama VS Osama. More death to prove a point!
And I suspect that I am on the unpopular side of this moral issue, yet
again.
But it seems a trial would have been called for: Demonstrate, for all to see, that if you run contrary to the beliefs and lives of others who may not agree with you and kill to prove your point , you will be held accountable. That on this planet we rely on the rule of law and moral codes to exist with one another.
Death is too easy; especially when most believe that a happy time will then exist and killers are just accommodating the martyr.
We hope for the best world but "yet reality blows another truth" !
(thanks for that one, Nasra)

ReplyDeleteOnly when convenient, the rest of the time its what the mob feels is right.
i find myself ~there~ too
ReplyDelete"And I suspect that I am on the unpopular side of this moral issue, yet
ReplyDeleteagain."
I guess I am, as well, Lyle. Thanks for your post...it takes courage to post an unpopular opinion, but there are many who agree with you.
With all my heart, I hope you are doing well, my dear friend! xo
I don't think the side you're on is the wrong side but getting the Republicans who have blocked his underlings from being tried in and under our own judicial system may have made that an extremely difficult task.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, Mr. Bum.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure of that . . . seems the money not the mob will rule.
And what else is new?
i agree
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this and I'm in agreement with you!
ReplyDeleteSending my best wishes to you for days of joy & peace!

Hi, I hope this comment comes through. I hope you are getting better and feeling well and happy.
ReplyDeleteI also posted the lyrics to this Bob Dylan song years back. It's a very important song. It also reminds me of a poem Edna St.Vincent Millay wrote about World war 2, a great poem. "Apostrophe to war" I think it's titled. I have it in my blog somewhere.
I remember posting Masters of war lyrics on my blog years back..because I had read an interview article in relation to Bob Dylan explaining about this song and what it meant. He said that the "grave", the death, the "burial" and the "metaphor" he was writing and singing about was "War" itself, burying war, telling war off, standing at "wars grave" until we are sure war is dead. In other words he had said "a hopeful song" yet quite blunt. Yes, people "in charge" were sung about in this song, but really he said people often misinterpret this song "Masters of war" wrong and that we all wish to have an "end" to war forever..and a "death" to war..and we should all go to "it's burial" if we had the chance...so make sure "it's gone forever".
Anyway sorry this is long and hope it gets through. You know me I can go on and on in comments...reading peoples post always gives me food for thought and I like to make "real comments" about them on their blog.
Love and Blessings,
Rhi
I listened to a youtube version of this song by Cher...from way way back when with Sonny..it was from mid 60's and was blown away by her incredible intense tone and feeling in it. Sometimes I think other people can sing another persons song in a unique way and make it interesting. Check it out on Youtube if you get a chance.
We so play into the martyrs hands don't we? We helped create all this ourselves...and we just give them more "revenge ammunition" and it goes on and on
ReplyDeleteSo we must also take responsibility for our incredible stupidity..I felt from the first when Bush started war in Iraq that we were then only playing into their hands...and it would only make things worse..so the taliban just sends a bunch of terrorists to Iraq to blow up civilians and Soldiers..why? Because we were there! And it went on and on and on..Wow was that a stupid thing for Bush to do. And we cannot take it back....
I feel one day as time goes on G.W.Bush will be known as one of the worse American presidents in history..because of his horrific choices and many many many decisions and mistakes. He never took the time to think things through..he would always just dive in and then regret it. Like an immature little boy..along of course with all the people in his administration that controlled him and fed him lies also I am sure.
Rhi,
ReplyDeleteI will look up the Cher version, sounds interesting.
i guess death is easy for some......but very hard for most of all!!!
ReplyDeleteHope your duck is doing ok!
ReplyDeleteTake good care of her and yourself too!
Margie :)
Death is so cheap these days.
ReplyDeleteThe words in the poem are so true.
Its so sad. I have faith that humans are evolving for the better and I believe in the power of love.
ReplyDeletethanks.
Death is easy, living is the hard part. Many of us still dream of the world living in harmony. I agree with the others who commented about the courage it takes to voice something that is not popular. Don't ever lose that gift.
ReplyDeletevery interesting post
